Balancing Efficiency and Service: Managing a 4-Day Work Week Model in a Small Theological Library
Synopsis
This chapter examines the implementation of a 4-day, 28-hour work week at Saint Paul University’s library. Tsonos explores the challenges library management faced when trying to find appropriate and adaptable strategies that enhanced employee well-being while also maintaining high-quality services to the university community. In meeting the challenges of scheduling, workload redistribution, and budget adjustments, library management focused on improvements to efficiency, time management, and scheduling in order to successfully implement this new work model. Significant benefits of this change included improved work–life balance, staff morale, and retention in a small academic library setting.
