Synopsis

This study examines the development of theological libraries, particularly small ecclesiastical libraries, in Hungary, with a focus on their role in supporting academic research and publication. The authors highlight the most important services provided by these libraries, including bibliographic data management for the Hungarian Scientific Bibliography (MTMT), editorial support for institutional journals, and virtual library services that offer access beyond the institution's walls. Special attention is paid to examples such as the introduction of the Open Journal System (OJS) at John Wesley Theological College and the digital platforms of the Lutheran Theological University, including its sermon database. The study concludes that, despite their limited resources, small church libraries make a significant contribution to scholarly communication, visibility, and lifelong learning by adapting to user needs and embracing digital transformation.
