Synopsis

In an increasingly digital academic environment, information literacy (IL) has become a foundational competence for theologians, and theological libraries play a vital role in fostering it. This chapter argues that promoting IL should be recognized as a core responsibility and strategic area of theological libraries, enabling them to support theological research, uphold academic integrity, and encourage critical engagement with information. Given theology’s high degree of interdisciplinarity and methodological diversity — as well as the growing influence of digital and AI-driven technologies in research — IL instruction must address a broad spectrum of research practices and information environments to equip users with the skills needed in today’s academia.
