Information-Seeking Behaviors of Faith Leaders: Opportunities for Lifelong Learning

All faith leaders may not consider themselves to be experts in information research, evaluation, synthesis, or dissemination, but they are seen as authoritative figures in their communities. In an age lacking information clarity, this poses a challenge for faith leaders and the communities they serve. This chapter outlines research begun in 2024 by librarians in Indiana. Through surveys and interviews, the researchers sought to understand the information behaviors of practicing faith leaders, using evidence of current practices to inform future information literacy training for active and aspiring faith leaders. This chapter articulates the importance of information literacy skills for religious leaders and suggests opportunities for cross-denominational training and skill development.
